proudly presents A TRIBUTE TO WYNN STEWART Sunday,
July 16th, from 6:30-11 |
A report by Wren (Wynn's daughter):
Many fans showed up for this wonderful tribute to my dad. The idea for the show came from Jimmy Stinson, of the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Fort Worth, the owner of the "Big Balls in Cowtown" nightclub, and Ronnie Dale, leader of the band that plays weekly at the club. Ronnie and I used to play in a band together when we were in high school, so this was like a 20 year reunion for us to play together again. He and the band did a fantastic job of playing only Wynn Stewart songs the entire night. Several special guests got up on stage to sing their favorite song of Wynn's. I myself sang several, "Big, Big Love", "Wishful Thinking", "It's Such a Pretty World Today", "I'll Never Find Another You", "Cause I Have You", plus 2 duets that I sang with a wonderful singer, Justin Trevino, "Wrong Company" and "We'll Never Love Again". These were some of the duets that my dad recorded with Jan Howard.

Also appearing were 2 former musicians who worked with my dad, Ralph Mooney and Dennis Hromeck. Everyone was very honored to have them there. They signed autographs and a lot of pictures were taken.

Many stories were re-told on this enchanted evening. Everyone there had their own story to tell about how they met Wynn or where they used to hear him sing or how special a certain song was to them. Everytime the band would start up another song, the crowd would cheer with recognition. The dance floor was full all the time. It was a wonderful and very touching evening.
The first song of the night was "Playboy", sung by Ronnie Dale. The crowd cheered and my heart just burst with pride and my eyes filled with tears as I realized how much my dad's music meant to all these people. Then I looked across the room and my sister and mom were crying too. Being so choked up with emotion, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to sing. But once I got on stage, I was so excited and ready to sing that I didn't even think about crying. We brought all the kids so they could appreciate the evening as well. They had fun playing pool most of the time.
Jimmy presented my mom, Dolores, with a vase of red roses that they had set up by a picture of my dad.
There were a ton more pictures taken that I might be able to post here later. These were all I took with my camera. If you were there and have some pictures so share, please let me know.I just can't describe the deep feelings of pride and thanks to all that came. It was an incredibly magical evening for us all.
